Football World Cup - Did You Know?

In a recent conversation with Xavier Sala-i-Martin, Chief Economic Advisor to the World Economic Forum, I was delighted to learn that we share a passion for European football, and of his intimate awareness of the 1950's Hungarian Golden Team's impact on the sport.

In his words: "The main contribution of the 'Magical Magyars' of the 1950's was the innovation that we know as 'total football'. They put more weight on the offence than defense, and converted a static game into a dynamic game as all players moved around the pitch and were not forced to remain in a particular area."
