Disruption on the horizon: Universal Basic Income

A radical new concept is taking root among the elite of Silicon Valley.  It is reminiscent of the famous Dire Straits song of 1985: Money for Nothing.

The idea is that automation and artificial intelligence are rapidly replacing human labor as a necessary resource for the economy. Therefore, in the not-too-distant future, people will not have jobs.  To prepare for this eventuality, high-tech leaders are proposing the concept of Universal Basic Income – meaning that people would be entitled to receive a salary without doing any work. Mark Zuckerberg put forth this suggestion during his recent Harvard University commencement address.  Certainly, some food for thought, for most any business.  Here is an article in Fortune magazine with some details:
